The metal material used in SLS is a mixed powder of processed and low melting point metal or molecular material. The melted material is used to achieve bonding and molding, so the entity has pores and poor mechanical properties. If it is to be used, it needs to be remelted at a high temperature.
The entire process of SLM printing starts with slicing 3D CAD data. It converts 3D data into many 2D data. The format of 3D CAD data is usually an STL file, which is also commonly used in other layered 3D printing techniques. We can import the CAD data into the slicing software and set various attribute parameters, as well as set some printing control parameters. During the printing process of SLM, firstly, a thin layer is printed uniformly on the substrate, and then the 3D shape printing is realized by the movement of the Z axis.
The entire printing process is carried out in a closed container filled with inert gas argon or nitrogen, which reduces the oxygen content to 0.05%. The working method of SLM is to control the galvanometer to realize the laser irradiation of the tiled powder, heating the metal until it is completely melted. Each time the irradiation table of one level is completed, the table moves down, and the tiling mechanism performs the tile operation again, and then the laser After the irradiation of the next layer is completed, the new layer of powder is melted and bonded with the previous layer, This cycle is repeated to finally complete the 3D geometry. Usually, the working space is filled with inert gas to prevent the metal powder from being oxidized, Some have an air circulation system to eliminate the spark generated by the laser.
