What is SLM 3D printing?
Are you a big fan of 3D printing? Whether yes or no, come and learn with me. I am going to show you what is SLM 3D printing.
Let's start from its name, SLM is the abbreviation of selective laser melting. From its name, we know that under the function of a laser, metal powder begins to melt and then solidify.
The basic principle of 3D printing is printed layer by layer and every item has its own shape.
To make that shape, the laser must be selectively not randomly.
Then how to make sure the printing is perfect?
First of all, unlike resin, metal powder is easy to oxidize. To ensure a good surface quality, we have to decrease the oxygen content to 0.01% and then input inert gas to avoid the chemical reaction。
Second, to make sure the printing accuracy. Adjusting the substrate to a horizontal state is fundamental. Any slight incline will influence the printing quality.
Third, during the laser melting part. Smoke and some dust will produced. If not cleared timely, the printing quality will be influenced, too. And then it comes to the gas circulation filtration systems.
What kind of material can be used to print?
Currently, there are 12 printing materials that can be used in Kings SLM machines.
They are:
Stainless Steel 17-4
Stainless Steel 304
Die steel 1.2709/18NI300
Die steel CX
Aluminum alloy AlSi10Mg
Titanium Alloy TC4
Cobalt-chromium alloy CoCrMo
Copper alloy CuSn10
Chrome Zirconium Copper CuCrZr
Nickel-based superalloy 718
Pure tantalum
The choices are quite wide, right? "What if I want to choose metal powder from a 3rd party?" That's OK. But during the warranty time using Kings is best.
What's the application field of the SLM 3D printer?
1. Aerospace
Printing special-shaped parts
Lightweight of heavy components
Repair damaged parts
Lightweight of customization
Customized welding-free parts
Customization of integrally formed parts
Forming of special parts
3. Industrial mould components
4. Medical
6. Jewelry
